Over the weekend

Been a week since my last post, busy with work and attended a 2 days tax seminar. Managed to catch a movie over the weekend, New Police Story produced by Jacky Chan. The movie was good, the story line is a lil bit different than the ordinary police movie, although the way the story develop was a bit unreasonable at times, the action is there, it's real action and not the usual Jacky Chan dancing kung fu moves. Well, this movie certainly has lifted the standard of Hong Kong movies which were recently below par than before.

Over the weekend, my country has also experienced the launching of a new MPV, Toyota Avanza, a 3 row seats MPV 1.3 liter that will be selling less than RM60k. It's been more than a decade when Malaysians are able to buy a Toyota car at that price. It's selling very well and the waiting list extended to 6 months. Actually, it was opened for booking even before it was launched, err ... actually it was to be officially launched on Oct 29 but the cars are ready viewing at certain showrooms currently. It's amazing how UMW (the assembler for Toyota marques in Malaysia) is able to priced the MPV below RM60k after taking in the taxes compared to the national cars that enjoy lower tax and duties. If Nissan and Honda were to counter with another model at that price range, the car industry is going to be very exciting, and I believe they will seeing that how the Avanza has been well received so far.

Few days ago, a landslide has occured at the Malaysia North South highway near Gua Tempurung. Although there was no casualty, the incident was not expected and causing inconvenience. Actually, this is not the first time. It happen around the same area about 5 years ago and recently large boulder of rocks rolled onto the highway at another location. I thought the government would have learnt from the past and do something about it but then, Malaysians have very short memory and ever forgiving.
